Ellis Peters (1913-1995)

Ellis Peters es el seudónimo que la escritora británica Edith Mary Pargeter utiliza para firmar parte de su obra, sobre todo las novelas protagonizadas por fray Cadfael, “detective” medieval.

Nació el 28 de septiembre de 1913 en Horsehey y falleció el 14 de octubre de 1995, en Madelay.

Autora de un gran número de obras de diferentes categorías, historia, ficción histófica hasta traductora de escritores clásicos checos.

No asistió a la universidad, pero tuvo una gran formación autodidáctica en temas que le atraían y pudo mantenerse con sus escritos tras la Segunda Guerra Mundial.

Escribió bajo varios seudónimos, pero con el nombre de Ellis Peters llegaría a ser popular debido a la serie de novelas de misterios del hermano Cadfael, monje benedictino de Shrewsbury.

Precisamente por estas historias conocí a esta escritora, hace ya bastantes años. recomendada por mi amiga Pilar Melero, una apasionada de las aventuras de fray Cadfael.

Hace poco he retomada la lectura de estos misterios medievales y me he llevado la sorpresa de que es casi imposible conseguir los libros, nuevos o en buen uso. Me parece que son ya lecturas clásicas, tal vez no lleguen a representar lo que fue Agatha Christie, pero alguna editorial debería interesarse por sus obras y volverlas a publicar, aunque fueran en una edición barata.
