Alan Bennett es un escritor británico. Nació en Leeds, el 9 de mayo de 1934.
Estudió Historia en la Universidad de Oxford donde trabajó unos años como profesor. También entonces comenzó a escribir y a actuar, hasta que se decidió por la literatura a tiempo completo, sobre todo teatro, con el que consiguió grandes éxitos y numerosos premios.
